From Sweet Home, Oregon to Washington, DC
Papé is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the 2018 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, a national tradition since 1970. A carefully selected tree from the Sweet Home Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest will be cut in early November, then transported cross-country by a Papé Kenworth truck. Follow along as Papé facilitates the 3,000-mile trip to Washington, D.C. – tracing the Oregon Trail in reverse. When it arrives in D.C., the Capitol Christmas tree will be displayed on the West lawn of the Capitol Building, with a public tree-lighting ceremony in early December 2018. A series of festive events will be hosted by local communities at museums, main streets, city halls, state capitols, markets, schools, and parades. Attendees will have the chance to sign banners on the sides of the truck while learning more about the Willamette National Forest and the great state of Oregon.
How it began
At Papé, our roots stretch back to our humble beginnings as a construction and forestry equipment company in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Papé continues to innovatively improve customer uptime by exploring the benefits of emerging technologies in farming, logging, trucking, construction, and warehouse operations. For over 80 years, Papé has been part of local communities and organizations within our western footprint. We believe community support is a natural extension of customer service--Participation with the 2018 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree is a proud opportunity to serve.
The Tree's Journey
Did you know?
At nearly 1.7 million acres in size, the Willamette National Forest features seven major peaks, three Wild and Scenic Rivers, eight wilderness areas, several historic lava flows and hundreds of high-elevation lakes. This is the second time the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will be sourced from Oregon. Papé provides premier capital equipment across all aspects of the forestry process. From harvesting trees, to organizing the logs in the field, loading them onto trucks, transporting them to mills, loading the timber onto construction sites, all the way to using the boards for construction– Papé is with the log every step of the way.
